Education:

Cal State University, Long Beach

In 2005, Dr. Gonzales graduated magna cum laude receiving a Bachelor’s of Science in Biology.

Southern California University of Health Sciences

In 2008, Dr. Gonzales graduated as salutatorian of his class. Here he received an extensive education of human anatomy, the diagnosis of musculoskeletal injuries, and chiropractic manipulative care.

However, he attributes most of his knowledge and expertise of sports injuries to his education after school:

“I smile when I to look back on my career. Graduating school I was confident… but I didn’t know what I know what I didn’t know. Along the way, I was fortunate to learn from other doctors, therapists, and trainers who opened my eyes to other aspects of rehabbing my clients.

I can say with confidence I don’t know everything yet but I’m sure I can assist any athlete at any point in their injury. Working in this field doesn’t mean I have to have all the answers… sometimes guiding athletes in the right direction are all they need. I don’t have to “fix” everyone.

I want my lasting legacy to be patient education and empowerment.

This is why have transitioned much of my treatment plans into active care programs over the last few years.

There’s nothing more rewarding that having a person’s light bulb turn on… and truly understand their injury.

Loss of control is what most people struggle with during an injury… the uncertainty and unknowing is worse than the injury itself.

This is where I specialize.”

Hobbies:

When he is not working with athletes Dr. Sebastian loves to play baseball, triathlon, hike, fish, and drinking/ making coffee and spend time with friends.

Crystal Campero

Rehab Trainer & Front Desk

Education:
Bachelor of Arts in Exercise Science Point Loma Nazarene University, San Diego, CA

Crystal is a certified personal trainer who received her Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Science from Point Loma Nazarene University located in sunny San Diego. Since her graduation, she has continued to pursue a career in the fitness and health field. She has held a variety of internships and employments in gyms and rehabilitation centers that have made her a very knowledgeable and confident individual in this field.

Her passion for fitness ironically started when her soccer career ended. She grew up playing a consistently high level of soccer, and aspired to take that with her all the way to college, if not beyond that. Unfortunately, during one of her high school seasons, she suffered a torn ACL and meniscus from a non-contact injury. Though the injury was career-ending and devastating, if it hadn’t been for the time she spent in intense physical therapy, her fascination for the body and exercise may not have ever been discovered. Since her injury, she has sought to understand the body, how it moves, and how it gets better with almost everything she does. Her search for a unique, honest, and effective rehab and fitness center lead her to Performance Place Sports Care, and from the moment she walked in, she was hooked to Performance Place mission.

When not in the office, you will probably find Crystal coaching at her Orangetheory Fitness gym, or running around town with her dog, Kona, at her side. She is up for most adventures and really enjoys long boarding, searching for the perfect cup of coffee, getting as many stamps on her passport as she can, and pretty much anything that has to do with dogs.

Crystal strives to share her passion for life with all the people she meets by assisting them in whatever way she can, especially when it comes to fitness. Her hope is to take her fitness career as far as she can, hopefully one day being able to own her own successful gym.

Mary Ellen Havana

Front Desk & Medical Liaison

Since she could walk Mary Ellen has always been really active. Growing up she spent a lot of time outside and joined basketball, gymnastics, and soccer. In high school she ran track, played soccer and cheered. It wasn’t until she had surgery on her ACL and meniscus from soccer that she became interested in physical therapy and sports rehabilitation.

Mary Ellen is a full-time student working towards her BS in Kinesiology. She aspires to be a physical therapist and help people achieve their full potential whether it be for sports rehab or performing everyday activities.

When she is not busy studying she spends a lot of time lifting at her CrossFit gym. When she’s not in the gym she’ll be out doing fun activities with her friends, family, and pup Mr. Monghkei. She has spent a lot of time coaching at her old CrossFit gym so here at Performance Place Sports Care, she enjoys being able to teach patients proper ways to lift, workout, and mobilize.
